Subject: (ATMoB:Discuss) Shuttle launch
seen off Marblehead!
My son & I headed to Devereux Beach tonight to watch the
shuttle launch. My wife stayed home in front of the PC & TV and gave
us the "play by play" over our cell phone so we would know that it actually
launched. Our line of sight was such that we had to look in the vicinity
of the busy Logan air traffic so it was difficult to find it at first.
My son spotted it though and we watched Endeavor come up the coast.
We've watched the ISS and Shuttles pass overhead many times, but we've never
seen a launch before. It was awesome!!
The apparent track was
at an altitude of ~8 degrees (right through Orion's belt!) and the engines
were visible in binocs.
Now, if I can only get through to the ISS
astronauts via my ham radio! I've received them and attempted a contact
several times but haven't got through yet. I will
soon!
