Fw: (ATMoB:Discuss) Dirty 2" TV Everbrite Diag
Gary,
I forwarded your question to Dr. Clay Sherrod. He runs the
Arkansas Sky Observatory and has been a tremendous source of information for a
great many amateur astronomers. Here's the response I
got.
Hope this helps,
Dave
Dave - no, I do not recommend anyone using the
solution, or any solution that contains detergent for uncoated mirror surfaces
which these diagonals are.....the BEST way to clean these is with a Kleenex (or
many dry ones used in succession....) and PURE isopropyl alcohol rated at about
93% or better, then followed by a clean rinse-wipe with distilled and filtered
water.
This would work for all mirrored surfaces that have
NO quartz overcoating. Regular Newtonian primary and secondaries are
overcoated however and can actually be cleaned using "Simple Green" among other
concoctions!!

Everbrite Diag
Dr. Clay,
Would this person want to use the same method you've defined
for corrector plates to clean his diagonal?
thanx,
Dave
Hi,
It looks as if the diag
mirror on my everbrite is in serious need of cleaning. Anyone have a
good method for doing this? Its not simply some dust on the surface. I
guess over time this thing has collected a good amount of grime. I can notice
the degredation, as some stars seem to get blurry and smeared in certain
areas. My guess was maybe using cotton swabs and 90+% alcohol. As i've never
cleaned it before, I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything wrong and ruin
it.
Gary
