(ATMoB:Discuss) Mosquito Magnet may be a life saver

There has been some discussion at recent ATMoB meetings about getting a
Mosquito Magnet for the observing field.

I just heard on TV news that there are 2 recent human cases of West
Nile Virus infection right here in Massachusetts, one of them fatal!

The man who died first developed symptoms in Sept. Eventually he
went into kidney failure and was hospitalized. He died a little over a
week ago. He was 70 years old. Although he did not spend much time
outdoors he did tend to go out to his screened in portch to smoke. The
screen door of the portch was alway left ajar to allow the cat to get in
and out, so it is suspected that a mosquito carrying the virus flew
through the open doorway of the portch and bit the man back in
September. He lived in Woburn. The is the first confirmed human
fatality from the virus in Massachusetts, and the third one in the
the United States this year.

The other case is an 89 year old man who lives in southeastern Mass.
and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

There have been a total of 44 reported cases of the virus this year in
the United States.
